Do hybrid cars get a cheaper insurance rate?

Hybrid cars do not usually get a cheaper insurance rate. Though this depends largely on what insurance company you are referring to, the fuel type of the car being insured typically does not affect the rate for the insurance. What is a factor affecting the rate, however, is the value of the vehicle which is being insured. Since hybrid cars tend to cost more, the rate for full coverage insurance can be much higher.

If you get just liability insurance, the rate will not usually be much different from one car to the next. The rates for this type of coverage are usually based on the driver, not the vehicle. For someone who has many traffic tickets, their rates are probably going to be significantly higher than someone with an exceptionally clean driving record. Insurance companies can look up a person’s driving record before issuing a policy to them for the first time.
